De esos procesos se deriva la estabilidad de los ecosistemas y el mantenimiento de la vida en el planeta. La comprensión de esta relación es esencial para la gestión por el hombre de los recursos naturales en función de sus necesidades. Avicennia germinans es una especie vegetal que desempeña un papel clave en el ecosistema del manglar del cual forma parte. La valoración de los servicios ecosistémicos que provee la especie y la importancia de su función ecológica en los ecosistemas donde se encuentra, con el fin de determinar los posibles usos antrópicos derivados de sus potencialidades naturales, es el objetivo del presente trabajo. In all plant ecosystems, natural chemical, physical, biological and ecological processes occur as a result of the interaction of its biotic and abiotic components. From these processes derives the stability of ecosystems and the maintenance of life on the planet. Understanding this relationship is essential for man-made management of natural resources based on their needs. Avicennia germinans is a plant species that plays a key role in the mangrove ecosystem of which it is part. The objective of this work is to assess the ecosystem services provided by the species and the importance of its ecological function in the ecosystems where it is found, in order to determine the possible anthropic uses derived from its natural potentialities.
