(marabú) en Cuba ha causado grandes daños, inhabilitando cuantiosas hectáreas de suelo agrícolas, por ser una planta invasora, espinosa, que dificulta su cosecha manualmente; se han reconocido y estudiado sus bondades, ya que mejora los suelos fijando nitrógeno e incorporando abundante materia orgánica en ellos. El Instituto de Investigaciones Agro-Forestales ha realizado diferentes estudios sobre las propiedades físico-mecánicas y químicas de su madera, arrojando una alta densidad y elevado poder calórico, elementos que permiten considerar este arbusto dentro de las especies de potencial de biomasa para la producción de energía. Este estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar las potencialidades de la biomasa del marabú para la generación de electricidad en la UEB Central Azucarero Ignacio Agramonte. A partir de 205,13 t de esta biomasa, fueron sustituidas 162,05 t de fuel oil, lo que le ahorró al país el equivalente a 64 758,42 dólares. The species Dichostachys cinerea (L.) Wight et Arm.
