Moreno-Caro, Israel physical properties mechanical properties royal palm characteristics density propiedades físicas propiedades mecánicas palma real características densidad El trabajo que se presenta tiene como objetivo determinar algunas de las propiedades de la madera de la especie Roystonea regia (H.B.K.) O. F. Cook (palma real), definida como el árbol nacional y utilizada para la construcción de casas rústicas. Para el estudio se obtuvieron ejemplares provenientes de las áreas de cuatro Estaciones Experimentales. De cada ejemplar se tomaron muestras de la base, el centro y la rabiza, con las que se elaboraron probetas para la determinación de las propiedades físicas y mecánicas. Los valores de densidad media se comportaron de la siguiente forma: la normal 0,712 g/cm3; en estado saturado 0,922 g/cm3; en condición seca al horno 0,690 g/cm3 y la densidad básica de 0,622 g/cm3. En cuanto a la resistencia mecánica, la compresión paralela a las fibras fue de 49,85 Mpa y la flexión estática de 93,5 Mpa, con un módulo de elasticidad de 11000,5 Mpa. The work that presents have the aims to determining some properties of the wood of the Roystonea regia (H.B.K.) O. F. Cook (palma real) this species is considered the national tree and is used to build rustic house in Cuba. For the study, the originating specimens got from the areas of 4 Forest Experiment Stations themselves, which find themselves distributed at all the country. Out of every their one they took base signs, the center and the rabiza, with the ones that elaborated test tubes for the determination of physical properties and mechanics themselves.
