	<dc:description xml:lang="es">La importancia de los recursos forestales se ha visto reforzada por la demanda de leña y carbón vegetal, recursos energéticos que se encuentran al alcance de todos. El presente trabajo tiene la finalidad de dar a conocer el poder calórico de especies forestales que crecen en Cuba para el aprovechamiento del recurso leñero como combustible. La metodología seguida fue la determinación del poder calórico mediante una bomba calorimétrica Mod. IKA-Kolorimeter-0400. Se determinó a 40 especies forestales la cantidad total de calor que se libera durante la combustión de la madera. Se observó que las especies de mayores valores fueron Caeslpina violacea (Mill.) Standl. con 5683 kcal/kg, seguidas de Chloroleucon mangense var. lanticifolium (A. Rich) Barneby &amp;amp; J. W. Grimes 5152 kcal/kg, Pinus caribaea Morelel var. caribaea Barret y Golfari 5136 kcal/kg, y Exothea paniculada (Juss) Radlk con 5079 kcal/kg, respectivamente. El poder calórico encontrado a las especies Colubrina arborescens (Mill.) Sarg. 3709 kcal/kg y Albizia falcataria con 3301 kcal/kg fueron las más bajas. El resto de las especies se encuentran entre muy buena y buena. Las especies más utilizadas en la producción de carbón vegetal se encuentran en la clasificación de buena.</dc:description>
	<dc:description xml:lang="en">The importance of the forest resources has been reinforced by the firewood demand and charcoal, energy resources that are within reach of all. The present work has the purpose to give to know the caloric power of forest species that they grow in Cuba, for the use of the resource firewood like fuel. The followed methodology was the determination of the caloric power by means of a calorimetric bomb Mod. IKA-Kolorimeter-0400. It was determined to 40 forest species the total quantity of heat that is liberated during the combustion of the wood. It was observed that the species of more securities were Caeslpina violacea (Mill) Standl with 5683 kcal/kg, followed by Chloroleucon mangense var. lanticifolium (A. Rich) Barneby &amp;amp; J. W. Grimes 5152 kcal/kg, Pinus caribaea Morelel var. caribaea Barret and Golfari 5136 kcal/kg and Exothea paniculada (Juss.) Radlk with 5079 kcal/kg, respectively. The opposing caloric power to the species Colubrina arborescens (Mill.) Sarg. 3709 kcal/kg and Albizia falcataria with 3301 kcal/kg were the lowest, the rest of the species is among very good and good. The most utilized species in the production of charcoal are in the classification of good.</dc:description>
