Resulta de interés la producción de aceites esenciales de la especie Melaleuca leucodendron Lin. (cayeput) que se desarrolla en terrenos húmedos y/o pantanosos preferentemente. El objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar el rendimiento de aceite esencial de esta especie en una investigación con seis procedencias y cinco espaciamientos. Se analizaron dos parcelas con diferentes fechas de corte de follaje en cada tratamiento. El rendimiento de aceite esencial fue del 1 al 3% del peso de follaje para los tratamientos, 6,7 kg de aceite en la primera parcela de corte y 6,3 kg en la segunda, con un pronóstico de follaje de 550 kg/ha y 440 kg/ha respectivamente. La procedencia más promisoria fue Topes de Collantes y el espaciamiento 3 m x 1 m. Se encontró en el aceite esencial los componentes alfa-pineno (16,9%), limoneno (18%), 1-8 cineol (20%) y eugenol (15%), entre otros. Entre las aplicaciones del aceite esencial de esta especie se encuentra su uso en insecticidas, bactericidas, fungicidas, cosméticos, farmacia, etc. The industry of the perfumery and pharmacy use great variety of essential oils and aromatic chemical that are imported raw materials. It is of interest in the production of essential oils of the species Melaleuca leucodendron Lin. (Cayeput) that is developed preferably in humid and/or marshy lands. The objective of the present work is to study the yield of oil essential of an investigation with 6 origins and 5 spacings. Two parcels were analyzed with different foliage cut off dates in each treatment. The essential oil yield went from 1 to 3% of the foliage weight for the treatments, 6,7 kg of oil in the first court parcel and the 6,3 kg in second, with an the predict respectively of foliage of 550 kg/ha and 440 kg/ha. The most promissory origin was Topes of Collantes and the spacing 3 m x 1 m. It was in the essential oil the components: alpha-pineno (16,9%), cajeputene (18%), 1-8 eucalyptol (20%) and eugenol (15%), among others.
