Caracterización química del follaje, corteza y madera de cinco especies forestales del grupo de Guamuhaya García Corrales, Humberto Guyat Dupuy, María Antonia Martell Díaz, Osmari Capote Pérez, Vilma - - Se presentan los resultados en el estudio de la composición química del follaje, corteza y madera correspondientes a cinco especies maderables del macizo montañoso Guamuhaya, en la región central del país. Se estudiaron las especies Laurocerasus occidentalis (Sw.) Roem. (cuajaní macho), Sapium jamaicensis Sw. (piniche), Juglans insularis Griseb. (nogal del país), Luehea speciosa Willd. (guásima baría) y Cordia collococca L. (ateje). En la madera y la corteza se determinaron los porcentajes de extractivos en alcohol-benceno y en agua, así como celulosa, lignina y azúcares reductores, además de los contenidos de diferentes metabolitos secundarios. También se realizó un estudio fitoquímico del follaje para obtener información acerca de sus posibilidades de usos en la medicina alternativa y tradicional. Results are presented in the study of the chemical composition of the bark, the wood and the foliage of five forest species at the solid mountainous area of Guamuhaya in the central region of the country. The studied species were Laurocerasus occidentalis (Sw.) Roem. (cuajaní macho), Sapium jamaicensis Sw. (piniche), Juglans insularis Griseb. (nogal del país), Luehea speciosa Willd. (guásima baría) y Cordia collococca L. (ateje). Percentage of extractives in alcohol-benzene and water, cellulose, lignine, reducing sugars and different secondary metabolites in wood and bark were determined. A phytochemical study of the foliage was also carried out to obtain information about the possible use of the species in alternative and tra- ditional medicine.
