	<dc:description xml:lang="es">La conservación de Swietenia macrophylla, especie amenazada por la sobreexplotación y la baja germinación de semillas, es crucial para la biodiversidad y la industria maderera. Este estudio evaluó el desarrollo en campo de plantas de Swietenia propagadas in vitro mediante embriogénesis somática, comparándolas con plantas propagadas convencionalmente. Se utilizaron 498 individuos (31 in vitro y 467 convencionales) plantados en la Estación Experimental Agro-Forestal Placetas, Cuba, bajo un diseño de medidas repetidas. Se midieron variables morfológicas (altura, diámetro, número de tallos) y supervivencia durante 14 meses. Los resultados mostraron que las plantas in vitro superaron a las convencionales en altura (4,10 vs. 3,85 cm) y diámetro (0,24 vs. 0,01 cm), con una tasa de supervivencia significativamente mayor (81% vs. 66%). Los análisis no paramétricos (Kruskal-Wallis) confirmaron diferencias significativas (p &amp;lt; 0,05) en el crecimiento a partir del segundo mes. Se concluyó que la propagación in vitro produce plantas más vigorosas y adaptadas, siendo una estrategia viable para la conservación de la especie.</dc:description>
	<dc:description xml:lang="en">The conservation of Swietenia macrophylla, a species threatened by overexploitation and low seed germination, is crucial for biodiversity and the timber industry. This study evaluated the field development of Swietenia plants propagated in vitro by somatic embryogenesis, comparing them with conventionally propagated plants. A total of 498 individuals (31 in vitro and 467 conventional) were planted at the Placetas Agro-Forestry Experimental Station, Cuba, under a repeated measures design. Morphological variables (height, diameter, number of stems) and survival were measured over 14 months. The results showed that the in vitro plants outperformed conventional plants in height (4.10 vs. 3.85 cm) and diameter (0.24 vs. 0.01 cm), with a significantly higher survival rate (81% vs. 66%). Nonparametric analyses (Kruskal-Wallis) confirmed significant differences (p &amp;lt; 0.05) in growth from the second month onwards. It was concluded that in vitro propagation produces more vigorous and adapted plants, making it a viable strategy for species conservation.</dc:description>
