Comportamiento de orígenes geográficos de Pinus caribaea en Cuba

Abstract
El presente informe analiza el comportamiento en seis caracteres de interés económico de 13 orígenes de la especie Pinus caribaea Morelet, 11 de los cuales pertenecen al P. caribaea var. caribaea, mientras que los otros constituyen muestras del P. caribaea var. bahamensis y del P. caribaea var. hondurensis. El material experimental se prueba en seis localidades del territorio nacional con un rango altitudinal que varía desde los 50 hasta los 750 msnm, en el cual la especie se desarrolla bien. Al momento de la última medición (1979) la edad de los ensayos era de ocho a nueve años. Los análisis y comparaciones efectuados durante diferentes momentos han permitido establecer que las variedades foráneas alcanzan durante los primeros años un crecimiento superior al P. caribaea var. caribaea, pero a partir del segundo o tercer año las diferencias comienzan a disminuir y a los ocho años la situación se ha invertido en tres de los sitios estudiados, mientras que en los tres restantes la variedad hondurensis, aún cuando mantiene un ritmo superior de crecimiento, manifiesta una rectitud del fuste y ramificación pobre y muy inferior a las otras dos variedades. Sobre la base de estos resultados se elaboraron recomendaciones para todos los sitios objeto de estudio tomando en consideración las perspectivas de reforestación de cada localidad.
