Abstract
La Teca (Tectona grandis L. F.) es una especie forestal de gran importancia en el mundo tropical. En Cuba se han hecho algunas plantaciones desde su introducción en 1930-31, pero la única que ha sido parcialmente estudiada es la plantación realizada en la Estación Experimental Forestal de Itabo, Matanzas. Los resultados demuestran que en este tipo de suelo (serie Bernal) los crecimientos son buenos en la primera edad, reduciéndose a medida que pasa el tiempo, por la imposibilidad de atravesar la arcilla plástica interior así como su poca fertilidad. Recomendamos algún tratamiento de remoción del suelo (subsolar), así como la aplicación de fertilizantes apropiados que suplan las deficiencias del suelo. Recomendamos también, que se hagan nuevas entresacas en las parcelas III y IV y se continúe manteniendo esa plantación con fines experimentales. La alta calidad de su madera, unida al crecimiento rápido de la especie, la califican ampliamente para intensificar su plantación dentro de los planes futuros de repoblación.
