Abstract
In October 1967, a trial of 18 fertiliser treatments was established in a plantation of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea Barrett and Golfari, at Viñales, Pinar del Río province, Cuba. Data on height at 9, 19 and 37 months were used to illustrate the principles of design and analysis of factorial experiments. Organic fertilisers had no effect on height at 19 and 37 months but did interact with t h e effects of inorganic fertilisers. Height at each date increased linearly with increasing NPK through the range 0-100 kg/ha and at 37 months there was evidence of a quadratic decrease with 100 kg/ha: Comparisons of selected 2 component fertilisers indicated the importance of nitrogen and phosphorus.
