Abstract
This paper deals with determination of calorific values using dried wood specimens of the species: Eucalyptus saligna Sm., Casuarina equisetifolia Forst., Jambosa vulgaris D.C. and Buchenavia capitata (Vahl.) Eichl., to test their suitability for use as fuel. The procedure followed involves the use of the bomb calorimeter and the adiabatic calorimeter, which practically eliminate hoat losses. In all cases, the temperatures of the laboratory and the calorimetric system were convenient ly regula ted. The best result was obtained with Eucalyptus saligna, as this species generated a greater amount of calories per gram of burnt material.
