Variación de la calidad de la madera del Pinus caribaea var. caribaea Barrett y Golfari: Análisis preliminar de cinco árboles de las plantaciones de Topes de Collantes, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
As an example of an appropiate biometric analysis, the va- riation in density and the largth of the tracheids in five trees of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea Barrett and Golfary in a 12 year old plantation were examined. The thickness of the double wall of the cell and the diameter of lumen in two of the trees were appraised. All the propertirs indicated that the material was adequate for an ample variaty of uses as wood and pulp, but considerable differen- ces were detected among the trees. Evident differences were observed among the radios of the rings oi annual growth and among the highth of the trees, as to the lengtn of the tracheids, the density and thichness of the double waii of the cell, but, less evident as to the diameter of the lumen. Significant differences occured among the trees. 'The length of the tracheides increased (from 2,3 to 2,9 mm) and the density decreased (from 0,47 to 0,38 g/cc) with the increased in highth. The length of the tracheids increased from 1,8 mm, in the 2nd ring, to 3,43 mm in the 10 th ring of the lowest disks. The density decreased from 0.50 to 0,42 g/cc (rings 2 and 4), and later increased to 0,55 g/cc (ring 10). The dimensions in the transversal section of the trees, were big- ger in the radial direction than in the tangencial direction. The dia- meter of the lumen remained virtually constant, nearly 30 p. The thickness of the double wall of the cell of the lowest disks, increased lineally from 5 (ring 2), to 11 (ring 12).
