Los suelos Ferralíticos Rojos Amarillentos de la Sierra Maestra, Cuba

Abstract
Se presentan algunas características físicas, químicas y mineralógicas de los suelos Ferralíticos Rojos Amarillentos del Gran Parque Nacional Sierra Maestra. Las características principales son: perfil de color gris parduzco en el primer horizonte cuando está cubierto por pinar natural, amarillento, pardo brillante y pardo rojizo en los horizontes inferiores, profundo, composición mecánica loam en superficie arcillosa en profundidad, ácidos, contenido de materia orgánica hasta 10% y de bases cambiables hasta 4,8 meq/100g de suelo. Las arcillas predominantes son ricas en minerales del tipo 1:1 como la caolinita y metahalloysita y en hidróxido como la goethita distribuidos por todo el perfil. Se recomienda su utilización en la silvicultura con el empleo de especies de Pinus sp.
