Carbon retention, baseline and mitigation alternatives of the Mayabeque agroforestal enterprise
Main Article Content
Abstract
Results of carbon retention of natural and artificial forests, areas to reforest, unforested areas and total (base year, base line) for the Agroforestry Enterprise Mayabeque are shown up, as well as results of five mitigation alternatives. Processing was made with SUMFOR system v. 3.03. The company accumulated 18 350.9 ktC at the end of 2016 (333.24 tC/ha), equivalent to the removal of 67 286.68 ktCO2 from the atmosphere, being the natural forests the bigger reservoir; for that the Indicator 3.5 of Sustainable Management had an outstanding contribution to the mitigation of the climatic change. The increase in 10 % of the ordinary yearly increment in 225 ha/year during two years had the bigger removal of carbon (5 096.5 ktC), but the reduction of 55 % of burnt areas in two years proved to be less expensive ($13 365.00 in total; 0.02 $/tCO2).
