Spatial distribution of accompanying trees of Magnolia orbiculata in a forest segment of the montano pluvial forest of the turquino national park
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research was carried out in the El Cojo Conservation Zonal Unit of the Turquino National Park in 2017, with the objective of determining the spatial distribution patterns of the companion trees of M. orbiculata in a montane rainforest segment. In temporal plots of 20 m x 25 m, the frequency of species with more than two individuals per plot was recorded, the mean variance ratio index was calculated, and dispersion mechanisms by species were consulted. The predominant distribution pattern was uniform with 73 % of species, 21 % showed tendency to group, while T. micranthum was the only species presented random distribution. Species with tendency to clump were O. leucoxylon, M. orbiculata, C. schreberiana, and P. occidentalis, while the most abundant dispersion syndrome is the zoocoria present in 84 % of the species, there being correspondence between the patterns of some species and their dispersion mechanisms.
