Main Article Content
Abstract
The sub-species Speotyto cunicularia floridana Ridgway has been reported nesting in Cuba, after many years of having being considered as a bird of casual presence in our country. Three populations of this breeding have been located: two in Pinar del Río province. and onc in Oriente province, that is to say, in both ends of the Island. The apparent differences between both populations, those of the eastern and western parts of Cuba, and the possible ways of their arrival to our Island, as well as a study of the stomach content, which shows the main food of these birds in Cuba. In addition, short notes on the ethology and ecology of the sub-species are included. Finally, a review of the populations of Florida, the Bahamas and Cuba is proposed, and the possiblr migrating influence of the subsyecies hipugaea, from the central and northwestern parts of North America, on such populations, is studied.
