Natural regeneration of Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Barret and Golfari for the increasement the wooded rate in San Felipe-Los Joberos massif
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper offers an evaluation of the behavior of natural regeneration of Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Barret and Golfari as an alternative of reforestation of slash and burn areas resulting from forest fires in San Felipe-Los Joberos Massif. The findings of a four-year study was carried out (January 2009 to May 2013), seeds in the ground reach 75 % of the first 2,5 cm of the soil and 70.3 % of them germinated due to warm conditions, expenses were reduced to 32 % and plantation came to be 19 times larger proving to be a viable alternative for reforestation. A training course is designed for decision-making personnel of environmental education to relieve the affectation of forest coverage or other environmental impacts, and to increase the knowledge concerning payments generated by forest vegetation.
