Apicultural species present in the farm La Unión, La Aplastada, Guisa, Granma
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research was carried out during the period 2013-2014 in the farm La Unión, La Aplastada, Sierra Maestra, Guisa, Granma, with the aim of inventorying species with apicultural potential. There were tours of the area resulting in the floristic inventory made up of 78 specimens. Nine structured interviews were conducted with nine farmers and 14 community members as well as bibliographical consultations to know the flowering season of the species and the preference for the bees. The results showed that there are 31 bee species belonging to 20 botanical families, of which the best represented, were: Rutaceae, Meliaceae, Anacardiaceae, Arecaceae, Caesalpinaceae, Sapindaceae, Malvaceae and Sterculeaceae with low diversity and high dominance. Most species bloom in the first half of the year (January-June). These results assert the need for farmers to increase bee species in their agricultural and forest areas, using plants that provide honey.
