Retention of carbon for the forest heritage of the Integral Forest Company Cienfuegos

Abstract
The patrimony of the Integral Forest Company of Cienfuegos (EFIC) is analyzed being determined the quantity of retained carbon as well as its expectable changes in 10 years. For this, it was used the version 2.15 of the automated system for the estimates of the carbon sink (SUMFOR v-2.15). In its base year 2012 the EFIC accumulates 7454,7 Mt of carbon, being estimated by the year 2022 around 13 882,5 Mt, increasing it sink potential in 6428,8 Mt; where the natural forests and the established plantations are the patrimony components that more contribute. The implementation of a plan should be executed to identify those activities that alter or modify the increment of the accumulation of the carbon negatively for the 10 year period. As fundamentals strategies of mitigation, the increment in 1 m3/ha/year of IMA in natural forest and reducing the harvesting because other cuttings in 50 % are recommended.
