Vegetative phenology of Coccothrinax macroglossa (León) Borhidi and Muñiz and Copernicia hospita Mart in Camagüey province, Cuba. Preliminary study
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the province of Camagüey is significant the extraction and use of leaves, fibers and trunks of several species of palms for various purposes. However, the techniques and procedures used to exploit them are not the most appropriate. The present research is a preliminary study and had as objective to evaluate the behavior of vegetative phenology of Coccothrinax macroglossa (Leon) Borhidi and Muñiz and Copernicia hospita Mart in the plains near the locality of Cromo, municipality Camagüey, as premises for the promotion of Conservation, management and sustainable use of palms with potential for the exploitation of non-timber forest products (NTFPs). Three representative plots of 50 x 50 meters were established, with phenological variables being observed the number of adult leaves, dry leaves and shoots in 5 individuals selected per plot for each species during May 2014.
