Potentialities of the biomass of the species Dichostachys cinerea (L.) Wight et Arm. (marabú) for the generation of electricity. Case study
Main Article Content
Abstract
The species Dichostachys cinerea (L.) Wight et Arm. (marabú) in Cuba has caused great damage by disabling large acres of agricultural land, for being an invasive, thorny plant that hinders its harvesting manually, its benefits have been recognized and studied since it improves the soil by fixing nitrogen and incorporating abundant organic matter in them . The Institute of Agro-Forestry Research has carried out different studies on the physical-mechanical and chemical properties of its wood, yielding a high density and high caloric power, elements that allow to consider this shrub within the species of biomass potential for the production of Energy. The objective of this study is to evaluate the potentialities of the marabou biomass for the generation of electricity in the UEB Central Azucarero Ignacio Agramonte, from 205.13 t of this biomass, 162.05 tons of fuel oil were substituted. saved the country the equivalent of 64 758.42 USD.
