Behavior of forest species in soils affected by drought in Palmarito, Jiguaní
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the context of the National Program Against the Desertificación and Drought, seven species forest Acacia auriculiformis Cunn ex Benth was proven, Albizzia lebbeck Willd, Swietenia mahagoni L. Jacq. (Mahogany antillna, local witness); Hibiscus elatus Sw; Lysiloma latisiliquum (L.) Benth, Tamarindus indicus L., Caesalpinea violaceae (Mill.) Standl, in soil affected by drought of the town of Palmarito, Jiguaní, Granma. The objective of the investigation consisted on evaluating the behavior of the species mentioned in soil of little humidity in that town. The experiment was planted on a design of three Complete Blocks at Random, occupying a surface of 1.6 ha, evaluating variables survival and height to the 18 months of having established the plantation. The results showed to Lysiloma latisiliquum (L.) Benth it was promissory species the one that reached 83,6 cm of height and 92,1 % of survival, followed by Acacia auriculiformis and Tamarindus indicus those that maintained a survival between 90,0 and 90,3 %, although their growth was limited for those conditions with averages between 35,0 and 45,8 cm.
