Abstract
La Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas, celebrada en diciembre de 2014, declaró a 2015 Año Internacional de los Suelos. Se evidencia así la importancia que este recurso posee y lo esencial que resulta mantenerlos sanos y productivos, ya que una gran parte de nuestros alimentos depende de los suelos, por lo que es un llamado a la conciencia mundial acerca de sus funciones relevantes y la necesidad de prestar la debida atención a los procesos que conllevan a su degradación por la amenaza que constituyen para la satisfacción de las necesidades de las futuras generaciones. La agricultura cubana también se enfrenta a esa degradación como uno de los problemas preocupantes del país.
La Revista Forestal Baracoa, exponente de los resultados de la actividad forestal cubana, se une a este llamado internacional con gran incidencia en la salud alimentaria de la creciente población mundial y en las funciones básicas de los ecosistemas.
