Restoration of degraded areas of the Cherry Trees community in the south coastal fringe of Guantánamo, Cuba

Abstract
With the objective of restoring degraded areas in Los Cerezos community, of Imías municipality, located in the South coastal fringe of Guantánamo city was develop the following work, during January 2009 to October 2011. It was selected a deforestd area and a broken fragments forest belonging to UBPC Eliomar Noa. They were inventoried and identified the present species in the forest and in was calculated the relative abundance. In both areas the degree of conservation of the vegetable cover was determined and they made enrichments in groups, with different species. The results show that the broken fragments forest is little conserved, in which trees and xerofíticos shrub prevail, with Guaiacum officinalis L. and Leucaena leucocephala (Lam) de Wit, like more abundant species. In the deforestada area classified as not conserved, are achieved a bigger survival of the postures Guaiacum officinalis L. They were carried out actions of environmental education with children and people of the community.
