Abstract

The work that presents have the aims to determining some properties of the wood of the Roystonea regia (H.B.K.) O. F. Cook (palma real) this species is considered the national tree and is used to build rustic house in Cuba. For the study, the originating specimens got from the areas of 4 Forest Experiment Stations themselves, which find themselves distributed at all the country. Out of every their one they took base signs, the center and the rabiza, with the ones that elaborated test tubes for the determination of physical properties and mechanics themselves. The values of half density were the following the normal of 0.712 g/cm3; Pregnant saturated 0.922 g cm3; In dry condition to the oven 0.690 g cm3 and the basic density of 0.622 g cm3. As to mechanical resistance, the parallel compression to fibers went from 49.85 Mpa and 93.5 Mpa static flexion, with 11 000.5 Mpa modulus of elasticity.
