Contribution to sustainable Integrated Forest Farms belonging to Minor Enterprise Agroindustrial United of Bahía Honda, Artemisa province, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Bahia Honda municipality in the province of Artemisa is a mountainous region and has 15 comprehensive forest farms, whose purpose is the protection of soil and water. Diagnosis was made in four properties: Corojalito, La Presa, La Sierra and Los Mangos. In the same have been established plantations in areas that were devoted to livestock and sugarcane agriculture. It confirms that the current management focused on silvicultural activities alone does not meet the economic needs of the farmer and family, causing an imbalance between the human being and the environment. The sustainability barometer reveals that forest cover scored the highest corresponding to the Shannon diversity index, which ranks as median different in 50 % of the sites evaluated. It is proposed; diversify production activities implementing agroforestry and silvopastoral practices, contributing to a more sustainable these productive units.
