Determination of power caloric forest species growing in Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
The importance of the forest resources has been reinforced by the firewood demand and charcoal, energy resources that are within reach of all. The present work has the purpose to give to know the caloric power of forest species that they grow in Cuba, for the use of the resource firewood like fuel. The followed methodology was the determination of the caloric power by means of a calorimetric bomb Mod. IKA-Kolorimeter-0400. It was determined to 40 forest species the total quantity of heat that is liberated during the combustion of the wood. It was observed that the species of more securities were Caeslpina violacea (Mill) Standl with 5683 kcal/kg, followed by Chloroleucon mangense var. lanticifolium (A. Rich) Barneby & J. W. Grimes 5152 kcal/kg, Pinus caribaea Morelel var. caribaea Barret and Golfari 5136 kcal/kg and Exothea paniculada (Juss.) Radlk with 5079 kcal/kg, respectively. The opposing caloric power to the species Colubrina arborescens (Mill.) Sarg. 3709 kcal/kg and Albizia falcataria with 3301 kcal/kg were the lowest, the rest of the species is among very good and good. The most utilized species in the production of charcoal are in the classification of good.
