Implementation of forest plantations silvopastoral

Abstract
In the town of Placetas, Villa Clara province, 28 % of the lands that were used for decades to the production of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) are now engaged in forest production. In the present study was to evaluate the breeding of sheep in forest plantations, with the aim of contributing to the diversification of production through the development of an integrated system. Was selected plantation Acacia, sp., 3.0 to 6 years has established that evaluate the behavior of 27 animals sheep, with free access to pasture. In the area dominated by Panicum maximum, with 58.9 % and the availability of pasture was 3.2 t DM/ha, the animals did not exert negative action on the trees. The average weight gain was 47 g/animal/day, being higher in the wooded area. The results suggest planting a fodder bank to ensure food quality and quantity. Likewise, the economic assessment showed the benefits of introducing sheep in forest plantations, ensuring increased profitability in the forest.
