Abstract
Se cumplen cuarenta y dos años de la salida del primer número de la Revista Forestal Baracoa, la que durante todo este tiempo ha sido exponente de los principales resultados de científicos, silvicultores, ingenieros, técnicos y especialistas de Cuba y otros países vinculados a la actividad forestal en todo el país, como expresión de los avances más importantes de su desarrollo, del papel esencial de los bosques para la vida.
Varias décadas de trabajo de la Revista Forestal Baracoa constituyen una valiosa contribución al conocimiento de la importancia de los bosques como parte integrante de la diversidad biológica, de los bienes y servicios que nos proporcionan, de su papel vital en el ciclo global del carbono, destacándose como una de sus funciones esenciales para sostener la vida en la Tierra la posibilidad de mitigar el cambio climático mediante el aumento de la captura de carbono debido a la forestación y a la gestión forestal sostenible. Es nuestro objetivo continuar acompañando cada peldaño del desarrollo forestal del país.
