Abstract

It was carried out a study in mountainous localities of Guisa town, Granma province, with the objective to diagnostic the potential flora of the town, for its use in the construction of housings, their transcendency at the present time, as well as to value the rational and sustainable use for the mountain peasant. As a result of the interviews realized to 500 old habitans, in the areas of: Victorino, Los Horneros, Palma del Perro and Los Números, was obtained a list of 59 arboreal species that are included in 49 goods and 30 families, information was also obtained on the use that are attributed to each wood in the construction and the pruning time that they prefer. Were listed the species used since the aboriginal times , which have been given an irrational use, causing the deterioration in the natural ecosystems, most of them today are in the Red List of the UICN, to constitute species threatened for the Cuban flora.
