Estudio de las propiedades físico-mecánicas de cinco especies maderables del macizo montañoso Sagua-Nipe-Baracoa

Abstract
This study shows the physical-mechanical characteristics of five species of the mountainous macizo Sagua Nipe-Baracoa: Guaiacum officinalis L. (Guaiac), Gliricidia sepium (Jac.) (Florid pinenut), Phyllostylon brasiliensis Capanema (Jatía), Hebestigma cubensis (H. B. K.) Urb. (Frijolillo) and Lysiloma sabicu (Sabicú)
The results of this study Shows that the densities were above 800 g/cm3, the species Guaiacum officinalis had the highest value with 1200 g/cm3. Regarding the contractions, the radial tangential relationship behaved between 1,2 and 2,2 , presenting the lowest value the species Lysiloma sabicu (sabicú) and the but high for the Gliricidia sepium (Jac.). As for the mechanical properties the best values were to Guaiacum officinalis specie, coinciding with the biggest value from the dry density to the air, that reaffirms the high relationship among these two properties. This specie has as tradition its use in piece of ships and lathed object. The general uses recommended for all the species are carpentry, furniture, marks of doors and windows, external constructions.
