Comportamiento de algunas propiedades físicas en la dirección radial de la madera de la especie Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea
Main Article Content
Abstract
Wood deformations during the drying process are inconvenient for its use in construction. It is necessary to know the behaviour of the parameters and the physical and mechanical properties to achieve a better stability in the sawed wooden pieces, as well as the understanding of the internal structure of wood. The study done allows to know the behaviour of the physical properties in the radial direction of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea M. logs. The research was done in the laboratories of the Tropical Research Institute and in the Civil Engineering Laboratory in Lisboa, Portugal, for this purpose, samples of wood from the Forest Enterprise of Pinar del Río was used and analysed 10 logs were obtained and in each one, a section of 60 cm high were taken out from the basal area, which will allow the elaboration of the physicalmechanical essays, by means of the samples elaboration of 2 cm thick in the radial direction, including the pith. The results show that tangential and radial shrinkage and the density increase in the radial direction from the pith to the bark, in the other hand, the longitudinal shrinkage decrease from the pith to the bark.
