On-site assessment of food production on farms in the municipality of Imías, Guantánamo province
Main Article Content
Abstract
The assessment of agricultural production and the calculation of yields on farms are essential for evaluating the efficiency of agricultural practices. The aim of this study is to show the productive results of six production systems before carrying out the training actions under the project "Improving Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Province of Guantánamo." The evaluated farms belong to the Imías Agroforestry Company, located in the semi-desertic southern slope, foothills, and mountainous areas. The production areas are part of Credit and Service Cooperatives, Basic Cooperative Production Units, and Enterprise Base Units. Descriptive statistics were applied to evaluate crop production and yields. The production of root crops, vegetables, grains, and fruit trees was 629.64 tons with a yield of 86.72 tons/ha. The Cajobabo Basic Business Unit, with 303.52 tons and a yield of 82.72 tons/ha, was the most productive. Grain production was low for all production types, with 18.74 tons and yields ranging from 0.69 tons/ha to 2.29 tons/ha, suggesting an increase in the production of crops that can adapt to the local conditions.
