The diagnosis on floristic diversity in the Los Cocos farm, La Lisa municipality
Main Article Content
Abstract
Assessing floristic diversity on farms is fundamental for biodiversity conservation in productive landscapes. The objective of this study was to diagnose floristic diversity at Finca Los Cocos, in the municipality of La Lisa, to contribute to the design of protection strategies for the Jaimanitas River basin. The study was conducted by establishing 15 randomly distributed temporary plots of 100 m², where all plant species were surveyed and identified in three strata (herbaceous, shrubby, and arboreal). Sampling sufficiency was analyzed using a species accumulation curve, and alpha (species richness S, Shannon-Wiener H', evenness E, and Simpson's dominance) and beta (cluster analysis using the Bray-Curtis measure) indices were calculated. The results showed that the sampling was sufficient, recording 535 individuals belonging to 30 species and 20 families, with a species richness of 30. The Shannon-Wiener index (H'=2.81) indicated moderate-to-high diversity, and the Evenness index (E=0.826) indicated a homogeneous distribution, although Terminalia catappa was the most dominant species. The tree stratum was the richest (41% of individuals). Beta diversity analysis revealed significant spatial heterogeneity, forming ten distinct groups of plots. It was concluded that the farm possesses acceptable floristic diversity with species of economic and ecological value, and that the variation in composition among plots reflects different ecological conditions-information useful for watershed management and conservation plans.
