Abstract

Agroforestry systems are essential for sustainable food production, as they improve soil fertility, conserve water, and promote biodiversity by creating habitats for diverse species, while offering high-value agricultural products. Based on the importance of developing these systems to achieve diversity and productivity in coffee farms, the "El Guayabal" farm and the Finca de Semillas, both belonging to the UBPC La Herradura, in the Manicaragua municipality, Villa Clara, were selected. The objective was to determine the level of sustainability achieved in both farms during the evaluated period (2017-2019), through the application of a methodology that contributes to the diversification and implementation of an integral productive system for coffee. This system allows the establishment of semi-permanent, annual and fruit crops under sustainable methods. Sustainability indicators of social, economic-productive and ecological-environmental nature present in the coffee production system were selected in order to estimate the preliminary results and observe the trend towards sustainability or agroecological conversion achieved.
